Library Cards

Library cards are available to all Middleton City residents without charge; residents pay city taxes which help to support the library.  Patrons outside the city limits may obtain a card for an annual fee of $25.00, and nonresident seniors who have reached age 62 may obtain a card for $12.00.  A nonresident senior high student may obtain a limited use card for $12.00.  These fees are subject to change and are based on the city tax structure.

All patrons must fill out a registration card and show proof of ID and current residency. Residency may be shown through a current utility bill, insurance card, rent receipt, etc.  The borrower, or his or her guardian, is responsible for all materials checked out on his or her card.

Borrowing Periods and Late Fees

  • Books and audio tapes are loaned for 21 days.
  • Videos and DVDs are loaned for 7 days.
  • Reference books are not circulated.

Late fees of 25 cents per day are charged for each item.  Fines will not exceed the replacement cost of the material.  If an item is lost or damaged beyond repair, the charge is the cost of the item plus a $2.00 processing fee.  Other fees may apply to damaged materials.  A collection agency may be used if materials are not returned in a timely manner.

Computers, Copier, and Printers

There is no charge to use the computers, but the cost of printing is 10 cents per page for black and white printing.  A copier is also available, and copies are 10 cents per page for letter size, 15 cents for legal size paper.

Interlibrary Loan

Interlibrary loans are available for materials we do not have in our library.  There is no charge except when we are charged by the lending library, although donations to help cover the cost of postage are appreciated.  Patron records must be up-to-date with no overdue books or fines.  Some restrictions apply to the number of books that can be requested.
